Originally Dutch, Anna Tonk obtained a BA Language and Culture Studies / Modern European Art History at Utrecht University. At Leiden University, she was the first student who successfully finished the MA Double Degree in Critical Heritage Studies of Asia and Europe, graduating from the second MA (Korean Studies / International Studies) at Yonsei University, South Korea. Here she studied the social aspects of a redevelopment process of a Seoul city neighbourhood, and wrote a critical thesis on political narratives in (ceramic) heritage museums. After briefly working in the heritage sector in The Netherlands, she joined fieldwork in a Portuguese mountain area in decline. In October 2019, she joined HERILAND as PhD candidate / Marie Slodowska–Curie Fellow, stationed at Newcastle University.
